  FAQ

Q1. The PPT Broadcast video doesn't work. Window Media Player shows ready and when clicked on the "play" button nothing happens or it plays for the first 3 seconds before stopping.

A1. Ensure that OS is Windows and not Mac or Linux.

A2. Ensure the browser used is Internet Explorer 5.0 and above

A3. Ensure the WMPlayer is v9 and above.

A4. Disable file sharing applications like kaZaa, imesh etc

A5. Disable third party personal firewall, other than winXP firewall (i.e. Norton, ZoneAlarm…)

A6. Apply all the windows updates. IE browser -> Tools -> Windows Update

A7. Open your window media player -> click on tools -> select options -> checked the option in the player setting section "connect to the Internet (overrides other commands)". Then go to the "Security" tab and checked the option "Run Script commands when present"

A8. Could be some s/w conflict problem on the student's computer, therefore we can try the following if the Student agrees to reset his computer setting back to an older version ... Click on the "Start Menu" -> "All Programs" -> "Accesseries" -> "System Tools" -> "System Restored" to restore the computer setting to an older version of the window media player and test if it works or not.

A9. Could be a missing codec problem. Try to install the Window Media Codecs. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx . Install Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later and Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Video 9 VCM

A10. Open your window media player v10 -> click on tools -> select options -> checked the option in the player setting section "connect to the Internet (overrides other commands)"
Then go to the "Security" tab and checked the option "Run Script commands when present"



Q2. Can’t access the webcast website, login failed.

A1. Refer to IVLE website for solution



Q3. No voice in webcast lecture.

A1. Pls check an ensure that you have WMPlayer latest version (9.xxxx) and above.

A2. Could be a missing codec problem. Try to install the Window Media Codecs http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx. Install Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later and Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Video 9 VCM.



Q4. How do I set the Windows player to watch the webcast lecture.

A1. Use default setting.



Q5. What is the versions of Windows Media Playet that I should use to view the webcast?

A1. WMPlayer latest version (9.xxxx) and above.



Q6. Videos buffers every few second.

A1. Don’t run other software programs at the same time. (i.e. download, chat, …)

A2. Due to Home Network Traffic congestion. Try to access at different day and time.



Q7. What type of Internet Access is required for webcast ?

A1. NUS Intranet or SCV Cable or Singnet Broadband or Pacnet Broadband
Note: Modem user might get audio only webcast or might not be able to view the webcast at all due to the need for high bandwidth streaming of the video.
